Challenge

Being a teenager today isn’t easy: being noticed, being liked, creating perfect content… But what if you’re a teenager with a disability?

Despite the large number of educational courses and programs for young people, most of them are not inclusive, leaving children with disabilities effectively excluded from these opportunities. They lack access to modern knowledge and skills that enable self-expression in the digital space. We aimed to create a platform where children with disabilities can learn relevant tools without barriers and master the creation of trending content — becoming an equal part of online culture.

Idea

“HIT” (“Hub of Inclusive TikTok”) is an educational content creation platform mentored by influencers.

Within UNICEF’s “Children As Children” information campaign, UNICEF together with the Ukrainian Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights and Child Rehabilitation, Daria Herasymchuk, launched “HIT” — a project designed to empower children with disabilities and give them a voice. TikTok, the most popular platform among teenagers, became the project’s main tool. Well-known Ukrainian bloggers such as Tania Yasta, Yulia Prolit, Tumazar, and other mentors taught teenagers with disabilities how to create engaging content in order to be seen and heard in society. In a friendly environment, participants learned the basics of filming, editing, scriptwriting, promotion, and responding to comments. As a result, some project participants gained tens of thousands of views and attracted the attention of Ukrainian brands for collaborations and ambassadorships focused on inclusivity.
